The Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai, established in 1855, stands as the oldest law school in Asia. With a legacy spanning nearly 170 years, GLC has produced some of India’s greatest jurists, leaders, and reformers—including Lokmanya Tilak, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Smt. Pratibha Patil. Its illustrious faculty has included Chief Justices, Senior Advocates, and scholars such as M.C. Chagla and N.A. Palkhivala.

The Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai, formed in 2009, is a dynamic student body under GLC. It aims to bring international law to the forefront of academic discourse by organizing lectures, workshops, Model UN collaborations, and its flagship event — the Government Law College International Law Summit. Over the years, SPIL has collaborated with global organizations such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), Indian Society of International Law, and International Law Students Association (ILSA), Washington DC.


About the Opportunity – International Law Summit 2026

The 16th Government Law College International Law Summit (GLC ILS 2026) is a two-day hybrid academic festival of law, diplomacy, and debate. It offers students a global platform to engage in competitions, discussions, and research presentations centered on International Trade Law — the theme for 2026.

The Summit comprises several key events:

  • Judgment Deliberation Competition (JDC) 2026 – Participants act as arbitrators under the WTO’s MPIA, deliberating and drafting a reasoned award in a simulated international dispute.
  • Treaty Appreciation Competition (TAC) 2026 – Teams represent countries in an UNCITRAL-style negotiation, analyzing and proposing reforms to the CISG (Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods).
  • Keynote Addresses – Delivered by global legal experts, addressing the evolving landscape of trade law.
  • Panel Discussion – On the intersection of climate imperatives, technology, and international trade policy.
  • Unveiling of the GLC-SPIL International Law Journal (Volume VI) – Featuring cutting-edge research on international trade law.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Open to undergraduate law students (3-year or 5-year LL.B.) enrolled in recognized institutions worldwide.
  • Each team composition:
    • JDC: 1 Participant Judge + 1 Judicial Clerk
    • TAC: 2 Delegates representing an assigned country
  • Strong research, drafting, and reasoning skills preferred.
  • Participants must submit written drafts (Award or Critique) before the deadline.
  • Registration includes meals and accommodation during offline rounds.

  • Runners-Up: ₹20,000–₹25,000

Law students enrolled in a recognized undergraduate law program (3-year or 5-year LL.B.) from India or abroad can apply.

Registration is paid.

  • Early Bird (before 15 November 2025): ₹4,999 per team
  • Late Registration (after 15 November 2025): ₹6,999 per team
    (Fee includes meals and accommodation.)

Q3. What is the last date to apply?
The last date to register is 30 November 2025, and the written submissions are due on the same date.

Q4. What is the selection process?
Teams submit a written Award (for JDC) or Critique (for TAC). Top 12 qualifying teams from each event will proceed to the offline deliberations at GLC, Mumbai.

Q5. Will I get a certificate after completion?
Yes. Every participant receives an official Certificate of Participation, and winners receive Certificates of Merit along with trophies and cash awards.
