NHRC Short-term Internship – Apply Now for 2025 Opportunity

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India’s premier statutory body for the protection and promotion of human rights, offers a unique Short-term Internship Programme for students from diverse academic streams, with a special focus on law students. Established to investigate complaints, monitor human rights situations, and promote awareness across India, NHRC provides interns with an immersive experience in human rights administration, complaint resolution, and legal processes.

Unlike regular summer and winter internship programs held in May-June and December-January, the Short-term Internship allows students to engage with the Commission throughout the year, except during these months. Through this program, interns gain firsthand exposure to NHRC’s various divisions, understand the intricacies of complaint handling, and interact directly with complainants. This makes the internship particularly valuable for law students interested in human rights, administrative law, and legal research.

The program also encourages interns to develop professional skills, observe the functioning of statutory bodies, and contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights in India.

About the Internship / Opportunity

The NHRC Short-term Internship is designed to provide students with a 15-day intensive learning experience in human rights administration. Interns will:

  • Observe complaint registration, investigation, and resolution mechanisms.
  • Interact with complainants and participate in case discussions.
  • Develop practical insights into human rights law, policy, and enforcement.
  • Gain guidance from senior officials and researchers at NHRC.

This program helps students bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical legal application, preparing them for careers in law, human rights advocacy, policy research, and governance.
